Spring Break - Day 1 and 2

Day 1 - Leaving home

Our original plans to get out of town early had to change at the last minute, so we weren't able to leave until around 1:00. Our first adventure happened only about a half mile from our house. As we were driving by a small farm with alpacas and cows, my husband looks over and says "Hey... look at that cow over there taking a poop". Of course, everyone jumps to look as though this is something we've never seen before, but the closer I looked I thought... that's not poop! It doesn't take a genius to take a second look and know that wasn't poop... it was a foot! This cow was right in the middle of giving birth only a few yards from the road and we had front row seats. It was really amazing and only took about 15 minutes from start to finish. Jason took many, many, many pictures. Unfortunately, I had my camera on a weird setting. (I've been playing with the ISO setting and apparently had it set to use all available light) All the pictures were solid white! Needless to say, Jason was ticked, but at least we figured it out before we drove away...... So, without further ado, here is a baby calf, only a few minutes old.

And that's how it started....

So, since it takes about 6 hours to drive straight through, w
e decided to break up our trip to Sunriver and not make the whole drive in one day like we have in the past. We stopped off at a kennel along the way and said goodbye to Bella and Gizmo who seemed perfectly happy to get out of our mini-van. I'm guessing they don't like it much.

We drove straight through to Salem, OR and that's where we spent the first night. While I'm searching my navigator do-dad in the car, looking for a Super 8 or Best Western, Jason sees the "Phoenix Grande Hotel". For me, I think I'll have to sell a kidney already to pay for this trip, but after we stopped to check out the prices, they weren't too bad. Plus, they had an indoor pool and a free continental breakfast the next morning. The lighting wasn't great for pictures. The kids didn't care whether I took pictures or not. They had fun jumping from the warm water in the hot tub to the cool water in the pool.

DAY 2

I forgot to take my camera to breakfast, but they had a "make your own waffles" station, which was really neat, plus tons of other stuff to choose from. I think we had a little of everything.
After breakfast, we headed down to a park by the river to let the kids play and ride on the carousel. The weather was amazing. (It's technically Monday night when I'm writing this, but the weather couldn't have been nicer than it has been so far!)

I also had a hard time capturing a good photo of the kids on the carousel. Those horses were galloping around pretty fast! (I got a little woozy when I rode it! - Geez, I'm getting old).

The kids rode twice, but were sad when they had to get off.

The rest of the drive was really beautiful, thanks to the fabulous weather. I always like to take pictures of the mountains down here, although the picture never does it justice.

I was happy to say that around 3:30 in the afternoon, that we finally made it to Sunriver!

I've taken tons of pictures, but the Internet connection here is slower than molasses, so it has taken me over an hour just to upload these. It's also 10:30, so I'm heading to get the kids to bed now. Hope to update you more as I have time.
Have a great week!

  1. Ahh, you lucky duck!

Enjoy Sunriver, but remember those biking rules (a family member was banned for not WALKING their bike through the little tunnel pathway, LOL)

Love the pics and looks like everyone's having a blast!
